Places to visit in Paros

You will pass Marmora village (the village with the 42
churches), you will continue through Marissa village (it's
local name is Tripods, which is even mentioned in many of the
songs) and you will reach Piso Livadi.
Piso Livadi belongs to the community of Marissa, and it's a small typical fishing village. During winter you can feel the solitude of the place, as only two families live there and the fishermen that come from time to time to feed the numerous cats. Hundredths of cats, that when they see a car or a visitor they run to him for food... During summer it's exactly the opposite. The village is full of life, there are many restaurants, bars on the sea side, small shops with gifts, a post office and a bank cash machine, children's playing yard on the sandy beach, a group of 6-7 ducks which are the mascot of the place, small and nice hotels and travel agencies. It's a small paradise for the tourists. We'd like also to mention a local band of self-educated musicians, who are gathered every second Saturday in a bar on the beach side, and play old Greek music with Bouzouki and guitars. Everyone can join them with singing and playing if they want. Now even the small cruising boats connect Piso Livadi with Santorini in just 2 hours, or even with Agia Anna in Naxos in just 20 minutes. You can enjoy your food, or even your afternoon coffee watching the sea and the fishing boats coming and going. The unique picture you should see is the sun rising and all the fishing boats returning from work, in order for the fishermen to enjoy their morning coffee by the sea side. As you follow the road that goes back to Parikia town, on the left side you will encounter the road that goes to Punda - the small port that links Paros with Antiparos island. We must also mention the "Afklaki" area, a green paradise with fine water. You can enter there through the yard of the small churches of Agios Arsenios and Agios Fanourios. Many people from the village take water from this area, as it's very good and tasteful. You can even walk there from Marpissa and you can also visit the monastery of Agios Georgios which is not far from there. All the villages of the island have a nice picturesque profile, with
a lot of history and nicely paved streets to walk. The village of
Prodromos is unique as it's build inside of the walls of the ancient
castle. And the narrow streets and the famouse "Volta" is one of the
MUST of Paros. Don't miss it |
